IWS Wellness Coach/Coordinator (WCC) Job Purpose

This position is part of a unique partnership between Innovative Wellness Solutions™ (IWS) and one of the largest independent employee-owned, Cleveland-based broker and consulting firm within the Health Management Services and Group Benefits department. Innovative Wellness Solutions (IWS) is an end-to-end Human Population Health Management (PHM) firm specializing in the design, development, and implementation of customized Human-centered Corporate PHM Strategies for medium and large sized businesses and organizations. The person hired for this position will be an IWS employee.

The foundation of IWS is our team of Wellness Coaches. At IWS, being a Wellness Coach involves more than just offering education and tips for good health. Wellness coaching requires a commitment to helping clients achieve their maximum potential for wellbeing. IWS Wellness Coaches provide the cornerstone of a successful Human-Centered worksite PHM Strategy, which in turn offers beneficial outcomes for individual clients, as well as the companies/organizations that employ them.

In addition to providing Wellness Coaching, Wellness Coach/Coordinators (WCCs) work with their Regional Coordinator (RC) to assist with delivery and management of wellness and health management tactics to ensure consistency and effective strategy implementation. The WCC is primarily responsible for delivery of coaching services as well as providing coordination support to client(s) within a designated geographical/corporate area to assist them in achieving their maximum potential for wellbeing.

IWS Wellness Coach/Coordinator (WCC) Description of Duties and Responsibilities

New Hires

  • Assists RC with training of new coaches within designated region regarding location specific details through provision of information and shadowing as needed

Wellness Coaching

  • Completes IWS coach and Diabetes Prevention Program training
  • Provides coaching services to client’s employees following PHM Strategy protocol
  • Creates an environment that is motivating, supportive, non‐competitive, and non‐judgmental for client employees
  • Supports individuals by providing information, encouraging progress, and working to address challenges or barriers that arise
  • Encourages goal setting during sessions and follow up as per PHM Strategy protocol
  • Prepares for each coaching session as needed
  • Maintains high standards and expectations of self and clients including attendance, starting on time, weekly weigh‐ins (when appropriate), self‐monitoring, and problem solving
  • Maintains and follows PHM Strategy protocols.
  • Is accessible to clients before and after sessions to answer questions and follow‐up on any questions that cannot be answered during class time
  • Understands and utilizes IWS technology platform to assist employees and manage coaching sessions

Wellness Program Coordination

  • Establishes relationship with key client Human Resources representative(s)
  • Maintains frequent (at least once per week) contact with Human Resources representative(s) for the local client(s) to facilitate delivery of wellness strategies and health management services
  • Works with the RC to ensure appropriate staffing and scheduling of PHM Strategy and services
  • Provides onsite presence for PHM Strategy support, i.e. answering employee questions, helping out with events, marketing, etc.
  • Assists RC with implementation of all PHM Strategies for client(s) within a specific geographical and/or corporately defined region
  • Where appropriate, supports Department Consultants in the implementation and delivery of programs and initiatives
  • Assists in the scheduling and coordination of PHM team meetings, the preparation of agendas, and the documentation of meeting minutes
  • Contributes to the management communication systems and addresses email correspondence as needed; responds to client inquiries, providing the appropriate information on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Supports PHM team members with all administrative functions
  • Manages various administrative functions
  • Understands the services provided by our best-in-class, health management preferred providers
  • Assists with the preparation and execution of various health management conferences
  • Inventories and maintains marketing materials, and assists with communication of these resources to related staff

Team Role

  • Collaborates with PHM team members to share knowledge of wellness programs and methodologies; contributes to the attainment of department goals and initiatives.
  • Provides direct support to assigned Health Management Consultant (where appropriate) & RC as required; responds to requests for assistance in a timely and collaborative manner

IWS Wellness Coach/Coordinator (WCC) Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, i.e. nutrition, exercise, safety, nursing, psychology, public health, health promotion, etc.;
  • At least one year of experience as a Wellness Coach or other demonstrated appropriate experience

Skills

  • Knowledge of basic health, nutrition, and fitness principles
  • Knowledge of the principles of behavior change and group facilitation
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, provide clear attention to detail, and maintain records
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people of varying ages, ethnicities, life experiences, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, and internet navigation
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

The Department of Health Administration in the School of Health Sciences at the University of New Haven is seeking to hire a tenure track faculty member in the area of public health. Preferred areas of specialization include health informatics, health education and promotion, and/or global health. This is a position to be filled for Fall 2019.

The University of New Haven School of Health Sciences educates competent, caring health professionals by delivering innovative, interdisciplinary healthcare education and services that are student-centered, focused on excellence, with a global reach. The School aims to be a regional destination and nationally recognized leader for healthcare education and services at the forefront of healthcare for the 21st century. The School of Health Sciences is comprised of four undergraduate and three graduate programs offered on its West Haven, Connecticut campus. The School’s faculty include 55 full-time and clinical faculty, an on-campus Dental Center and a Health Sciences Simulation Laboratory.

The University of New Haven School of Health Sciences is one of the most progressive health science schools in the US for its approach to integrate all health professionals – from technicians to physicians – in an interdisciplinary, interprofessional educational experience focused on its three primary pillars: prevention, professional ethics, and health technology. The School has embarked upon a 10-year plan of launching one new academic program each year for the next 10 years. This includes the creation of a market competitive health sciences core curriculum, the creation of innovative dual admission programs, and the creation of new clinical and non-clinical health programs in public health, digital health, athletic training, rehabilitation sciences and more. The School of Health Sciences has strong relationships with multiple health systems in the southern New England region that provide ample opportunities for research, community partnerships, and other collaborations.

The planned Master in Public Health degree program is anticipated to launch in Fall 2019. This program will be the first new program in the School of Health Sciences and is projected to grow to over 100 students in the next 5 years. The MPH Program is a 42-credit master’s degree with 33 credits of required public health competency coursework and 9 elective credits focused in areas including health informatics, health education and promotion, and global health. The program will seek CEPH Accreditation.

Specific Duties:

  • Teach 5-6 courses per year at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Advise and mentor students in the School of Health Sciences, specifically MPH students
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university level committees
  • Engage in an active scholarly research agenda in public health

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate degree in public health, health policy, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Experience advising, mentoring or coaching students or peers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with accredited public health programs and continuous quality improvement of academic programs
  • Experience working in diverse, multidisciplinary teams
